Nasser Alsaadun was born in Iraq and came to the United States as a refugee in 2008 after serving as an interpreter for the U.S. Army.
After resettling in Harrisonburg, Nasser established himself as a business owner, opening the Babylon store on South Main Street, while also working as an adjunct faculty member at James Madison University.
Driven by a sense of duty to serve his community, Nasser has a history of volunteer service with local organizations such as the Refugee Resettlement office, the Welcoming Harrisonburg Council, and Valley Interfaith Action.
His track record of community involvement and leadership earned him the Leader of the Year award from Church World Service in 2022.
Nasser currently works as an ELL teacher in Rockingham County, and is ready to take his community involvement to City Hall as your next Harrisonburg City Council member. He is motivated by the urgent need to address affordable housing, improving the working conditions for public school employees, and changing local laws to make Harrisonburg more climate resilient.
If you have ideas about how we can make our city a more livable, walkable, affordable place to live, Nasser would love to hear from you.
